Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman makes it to Top 10

TV5's newest musical game show Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman made it to
Nielsen's Top 10 evening programs in Mega Manila for November 23,
Saturday, according to Nielsen Media's Daily Round Up.

The local version of the hit US show Killer Karaoke advanced to the
Top 9 spot last Saturday, based on Nielsen's Mega Manila Television
Audience Measurement (MegaTAM), while remaining in the top 10 rank in
the national level based on Nationwide Urban Television Audience
Measurement (NuTAM). Four other Kapatid shows, Tropa Mo Ko Unli, Pinoy
Explorer, Juan Direction, and Showbiz Police landed in the Top 15
evening programs in Nationwide Urban.

Hosted by funnyman Michael V., Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman is fast
becoming a weekend favourite thanks to its hilarious format. Can you
sing while being dunked in a tank full of snakes? Or while holding out
your hands to crawling spiders and maggots? These are just some of the
crazy challenges contestants have to face to make it to the final
showdown, the spinning turntable, where the last one standing (and
singing) takes home the jackpot.

Globally, the Killer Karaoke craze has already reached US, UK, Russia,
Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Thailand, Argentina, Peru, Brazil,
Ecuador, and Mexico.

This Saturday, six celebrities will try to carry a tune without
screaming too much in fear of the challenges: the flamboyant
socialite-philanthropist Tessa Prieto, sexy star Ehra Madrigal, TV
host IC Mendoza, Kapatid hunk Vin Abrenica, Fil-Australian model
Gerard Sison, and Artista Academy's mysterious babe Malak So Shdifat.

Catch the music and laugh trip in Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman this
Saturday, 8:30pm, only on TV5!

her, comes with a price.

finds agreement from another controversial lawyer Atty. Ferdinand
Topacio.

As banters continue to heat up, the issue about Kapunan's acceptance
fee was raised. How true is it that she priced 100 million pesos for
the Napoles case?

FACE THE PEOPLE BRINGS TIN-TIN BERSOLA-BABAO TO TEARS

Less than two weeks following their pilot episode, the emotions are already high on the set of TV5's social reality talk program, Face The People.

Hosted by Gelli De Belen and Tin-tin Bersola-Babao, Face The People puts common people with controversial issues on the spotlight to help them make the crucial decision that will most affect their life. Case subjects are seated on the iconic "silya de konsensya" to face a diverse group of a hundred people with strong views on the issue at hand.

Handling a show like this can be very emotional, and this upcoming Wednesday, Tin-tin Babao will not be able to hide her sentiments on-cam as she bursts into tears. As she and Gelli prepare for their extro spiels, and while the camera is still rolling, the Face the People staff surprises Tin-tin by giving her a birthday special. The host will celebrate her birthday on October 30.

Surprised and extremely touched by the gesture, Tin-tin cries as she thanks the staff for "taking care of her". In a separate interview, Tin-tin shared that it is her first time to do a show with this format and she welcomed this change in her career, thanking TV5 for "the trust".

This week, Face The People looks into the case of a man who falls in love with his house help on Monday, and the story of a security guard torn between the woman he loves and the woman who gave him a child on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, just before Tin-tin's birthday special, Face The People will feature the story of a 51-year-old bouncer who discovers that he's into men and falls in love with his 24-year-old colleague.

Face The People airs daily, 4:30PM, and is part of the beefed-up Everyday, All The Way programs of TV5.

Martin Escudero acting prowess tested again in TV5’s HIV-themed series, POSITIVE

After being recognized for his award-winning portrayal as Remington in
the independent film, Zombadings I: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington,
highly acclaimed actor Martin Escudero returns to the small screens to
play yet another challenging and controversial role as a person who is
diagnosed positive with HIV in TV5's daring move to discuss one of the
most relevant yet silenced issues we face today.

POSITIVE revolves on the story of Carlo – a young and successful
professional who lives his almost perfect life as an Operations
Manager of a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company and as a
family man happily married to his pregnant wife, until he was
diagnosed positive of HIV. He begins tracing his steps backward, from
his times as a promiscuous teenager who lives a life of party and
drugs, to know where he got the disease.

Martin Escudero will play the lead.

Upon hearing that he would be playing as someone who lives with HIV,
Martin welcomed the role with enthusiasm.

"First time kasi that a whole series is dedicated to the life of
someone with HIV. It's an interesting series and it's a challenging
role, so I really have to prepare for it." said Martin.

Expecting the heavy drama scenes from the role he is about to portray,
Martin voluntarily submitted himself to workshops organized by the
AIDS Society of the Philippines (ASP) in order to know more about the
disease and to fully embody his character. Other casts, staff and crew
also joined the workshops to fully immerse themselves to the situation
and to accurately portray HIV for the series.

After knowing how the disease is transmitted, the rising numbers of
HIV/AIDS cases, and spending time hearing the stories directly from
persons living with HIV (PLHIV), Martin Escudero volunteered to get
tested for HIV.

"I wanted to get tested. Marami kasing natatakot magpa-test for HIV.
So I want to get tested to fully understand the feeling, para magamit

Martin won Best Actor both in last year's Gawad Tanglaw awards and
ENPRESS Golden Screen awards for his role as Remington in Zombadings
1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington. Besides Positive, Martin is also
doing another independent film, this time international.

Positive is set to air on Thursday, October 7, and part of TV5's
stronger primetime block.

Jasmine Curtis bags Best Supporting Actress award – New Breed category for indie film Transit

TV5 princess Jasmine Curtis-Smith was recognized for her superb acting role in Transit – one of the official entries in the New Breed category of the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. TV5 welcomed this new development in Jasmine's career and congratulated the Kapatid princess on her first acting award.

According to Perci Intalan, TV5 head for entertainment productions, Jasmine's triumph in the recently held Cinemalaya Film Festival shows how "she has matured as an actress and has strengthened her craft". It will be recalled that Jasmine started her showbiz career in TV5. The network is proud of her and has always believed in her talent.

The Kapatid young actress starred in TV5's remake of the hit action-romance film Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum. She  also played the role of Epifania "Anya" Dionisio in Nandito Ako where she co-starred with Eula Caballero and American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta.

The young actress is part of TV5's primetime action series Undercover. She plays the role of Claire, the IT expert/gadgets girl in Derek Ramsay's team of undercover vigilantes. Undercover airs weeknights,7:30 pm at TV5.

During the recently held Cinemalaya Festival Awards Night last Sunday, Jasmine won the Best Supporting Actress award for the New Breed Category. In the film, she played the role of Yael, a daughter of an OFW who is not familiar with the Filipino culture because was born and raised in Israel. Yael insists that she is not a Filipino but an Israeli, which causes a conflict between her and her mother, Janet (Ms. Irma Adlawan).

Playing the role of Yael is Jasmine's first role in the big screen. The Kapatid young actress had to learn to speak Hebrew fluently – as her character cannot understand nor speak in Filipino.

"It was very difficult to learn how to speak Hebrew but at the end of the day, I think I have done my part well." says the young Curtis.

The role of Yael was not handed to Jasmine in a silver platter. Just like the others, she went in lines and auditioned for the film when its organizers held casting calls for the roles.

Jasmine welcomes the idea of doing a mainstream movie, but admits that she want to do another indie in the future.

"Parang mas bagay kasi ako sa indie 'no?" she says.

Rescue 5 launches activity book on disaster preparedness

Kids enjoyed their activity books, but did so while learning something that could save their lives.  Almost 600 Grades 2 and 3 students of San Vicente Elementary School in Angono, Rizal received the Rescue 5 activity books on disaster preparedness during its launch last Friday, June 28, in time for the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July.  Along with the activity books, the Rescue 5 team also distributed 72-hour survival kits (backpacks containing a whistle, flashlight, crayons, notebook, pencil, clay and ready-to-eat snacks) to the students.

Ten-year old Jhon Romulo "Jhon-Jhon" Vasquez, a Grade 3 student at San Vicente Elementary School, recalls how their house was submerged in floodwater during the onslaught of Habagat, in August of last year.  "The floodwater kept rising," Jhon-Jhon says.  "My family and I were forced to climb our rooftop, and were able to save only a few of our belongings."  Most of Jhon-Jhon's schoolmates were also heavily affected by the Habagat flooding, especially since their town is located near Laguna de Bay.

The schoolchildren excitedly answered their activity books, while Rescue 5 recruits Manu Sandejas and Shawn Yao guided them.  Rescue 5 host Paolo Bediones also conducted a disaster preparedness demo which includes making an improvised flotation device, and doing the "drop, cover, and hold on," during an earthquake.

"We came up with the Rescue 5 activity book to motivate kids to learn about disaster preparedness," says News5 Public Service Head Sherryl Yao.  "By coloring and answering the different activities like puzzles and mazes, they can easily remember what to do during floods, fires, and earthquakes.  It also makes the learning more fun and enjoyable."

Ventriloquist WanLu and Marvin the Magician also performed to add more fun to the program.

The Rescue 5 activity book has passed the review of the Department of Education (DepEd).  According to DepEd Bureau of Elementary Education Director Marilyn Dimaano, "this material (activity book) will help create awareness on disaster preparedness among our pupils."

Aga, Derek, at Sharon, pinagkaguluhan sa New York

"We are happy that TV5 is here, and for making this year's celebration the biggest ever...," sabi ni Consul General Mario L. De Leon Jr. "We are delighted to see our Kapatids here in New York, and for bringing our biggest stars closer to them. We hope to be able to do this every year,"dagdag ni Claro Carmelo Ramirez, presidente ng TV5 International/PGNL.

Rescue5 to launch kids’ activity book on disaster preparedness

Kids are in for a treat this week, but with an important purpose. As National Disaster Consciousness Month nears this July, Rescue5 will launch its disaster preparedness activity book for kids on June 28, Friday, at San Vicente Elementary School in Angono, Rizal.

Angono is flood-prone since it is situated near Laguna de Bay, thus disaster preparedness is much needed.  Residents were heavily affected by flood during Ondoy and Habagat.  Also, students of San Vicente Elementary School have limited knowledge on disaster preparedness.

Rescue5 host Paolo Bediones will lead the distribution of the activity books and 72-hour survival kits to almost 600 Grades 2 and 3 students.  Together with the Rescue5 team, and recruits Manu Sandejas and Shawn Yao, he will also conduct a demo to help students prepare for floods, fires and earthquakes.

The Rescue 5 activity book has also passed the review of the Department of Education (DepEd).

TV5 surges in VisMin, beats GMA

TV5 outperformed competition in key areas in Visayas and Mindanao, posting higher viewership for its primetime programs for the week of May 19-25. Based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement in key cities in the Visayas, TV5 had a significant increase in audience share in metro cities in Iloilo, where the Kapatid network experienced its highest viewership ratings, beating GMA in barely a year since its signal presence was established in the area in July 2012. Similarly, TV5 continued to gain strength in Metro Cebu where it reached its highest primetime viewership and an 11 percentage-point audience shares lead—the biggest lead over GMA so far. The Kapatid Network has also been continuously enjoying a comfortable lead over the Kapuso network in Metro Bacolod since the year started.

The numbers continued to surge even further for TV5's primetime viewership in the Mindanao metro cities. Its audience share in Cagayan de Oro reached its highest primetime viewership, posting its biggest lead over GMA since it has overtaken the Kapuso network in June 2012. In Metro General Santos, TV5 is once more at neck and neck with ABS-CBN in terms of primetime viewership and has generated more than twice as much viewers as GMA's. TV5 has even surpassed ABS-CBN for the week of April 28 with a primetime viewership score of 38%.

As the network continues to gain traction and attract viewers in key regions in the country, TV5's new President and CEO Emmanuel C. Lorenza remains positive of the network's trajectory.   "This is very inspiring for us," he shared. "This gives us the energy and the confidence to continue with our efforts. We have the possibility to win audiences in Visayas and Mindanao in terms of pushing reach and we will do whatever it takes to increase our reach."

Apart from widening its network reach, TV5 is set on strengthening its programming content. As the fastest growing network in the country, TV5 has already redefined primetime viewing by offering a variety of news, entertainment and sports programs— shows that appeal to its intended audience and encourage co-viewing among family members. In closing, Mr. Lorenzana shared plans for more innovations in the upcoming months. "The media consumption of the average Filipino is now different," he says. "We have to be the network that is cognizant and is able to satisfy the way they use and consume media. We want TV5 to provide content that is relevant to our target group—content that we can transfer to various platforms. I would like us to be at the forefront of that."

Ethel Booba at Victor Silayan, wagi bilang Ultimate Party Couple saBoracay Bodies

Willie Revillame to Take a Long Vacation After Contract with TV5 Expires

Controversial TV host Willie Revillame announced on his noontime show "Wowowillie" on Tuesday that he will no longer renewing his contract with TV5 when it expires in October.

Revillame surprised his studio audience on Tuesday when he announced his intent to retire after his contract with TV5 ends this October.

The 50-year-old TV host said "burnout" is the main reason why he wanted to take a long vacation after "Wowowillie" ends this October.

Revillame also revealed that he already submitted his "intent to retire" letter to the TV5 management last May 17.

Meanwhile, TV5 has released a short statement on Tuesday afternoon regarding Revillame's "intent to retire":

"We respect the decision of Mr. Willie Revillame to retire upon the expiry of his contract with TV5. We wish him well in his new pursuits."

Last week, "Wowowillie" business unit head Jay Montelibano denied rumors that Willie Revillame is allegedly demanding a P90-million monthly talent fee from TV5.

Will the cast of Never Say Goodbye ever get their happy endings?

Tensions rise and tempers reach record highs as Never Say Goodbye reaches its exciting climax. The TV5 romantic drama may be counting down to its last two weeks but viewers will be thrilled to know that some of the most riveting dramatic sequences have yet to reach the small screen. Fans of the show, as well as those of its stars, should watch out for major twists as Never Say Goodbye's cast of characters get even more desperate to find their happily-ever-afters.

The men in Marta's (Nora Aunor) life—Javier (Cesar Montano), Dindo (Gardo Versoza) and William (Vin Abrenica)—have yet to come to terms with her amnesia. She only remembers her past romance with Javier, something her husband and son struggle with. However, a single gunshot quickly spells tragedy during the reunion of the former lovers.

For young lovers William and Kate (Sophie Albert), another chance at happiness beckons but Troy (Edgar Allan Guzman) is determined to keep them apart. Kate herself has not accepted the fact that Greta (Rita Avila), the flamboyant socialite who keeps butting heads with her adoptive mother Criselda (Alice Dixson), is her biological mother.

For her part, Criselda is hell-bent on settling the score with Greta—even resorting to threatening the life of Kate just to get her rival's undivided attention. Because of this, Never Say Goodbye's two lead actresses will finally come to blows where the better (and more bitter, perhaps?) woman will survive.

Fans will not want to miss a single scene as Never Say Goodbye's grand finale draws near. The romantic drama airs every week night at 7:30 PM on TV5 right after Kidlat.

Balut Radio exceeds 10,000 listening hours in span of two weeks

A mere two weeks after its live open Beta launch, Balut Radio (www.balutradio.com) already made quite a splash among Pinoy netizens—having registered nearly 1,500 listeners and logged over 10,000 online listening hours. With these milestones, the music streaming site is quickly establishing itself as the new digital home of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

Balut Radio is the first site of its kind in the Philippines, being dedicated to streaming OPM at all times. The site allows users to control the music they listen to, as well as what they are able to share over social media. With Balut Radio, Pinoys can finally enjoy free streaming of some of the country's best music.

Ultimately, Balut Radio provides Pinoy netizens the opportunity to re-discover the best of OPM across its different sub-genres. With the site's themed songcasts, they can either reminisce with classic chart-toppers or explore what up-and-coming talents are contributing to the country's already-rich music industry. Balut Radio takes music streaming up a notch with a dedicated news and information channel so that Pinoys remain in-the-know.

Through Balut Radio, TV5 extends its online and digital offerings which include online news portal InterAksyon.com, digital go-to girl Kristin.com, and the PBAonAKTV app available for Android. The Kapatid Network is optimistic that through its digital innovations, more Filipinos will continue to embrace the digital lifestyle with the increasing demand for on-the-go information and services.

According to Project Head Martin Andanar, the site reflects the Filipino's distinct musical tastes. "Balut Radio will cater to the different moods and music preferences of Filipinos all over the country as the site grows," he said. "We are also considered how Pinoys behave online in putting the site together. With Balut Radio, listeners are able to go beyond social media sharing—they can recommend and dedicate songs to their loved ones," he added.

Further to the list of services on Balut Radio is the site's level of personalization. Balut Radio allows listeners to create their own songcasts based on their mood and for different purposes. The site also adjusts the audio streaming bitrate to the available network bandwidth, providing listeners a smooth, continuous listening experience.

Andanar and the rest of the Balut Radio team are looking forward to exciting things in the site's future, teasing at an even more extensive music library featuring some of the country's most sought-after artists. He added that Balut Radio could very well be the online breeding grounds for independent OPM artists.

To keep track of updates related to Balut Radio, more information is available on its official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BalutRadio) and Twitter account (@BalutRadio).

Robin Dude continues his adventure in this week’s Istorifik: Pidol’s Kuwentong Fantastik

Robin Dude is out to save the day as his adventures continue every Sunday on Istorifik: Pidol's Kuwentong Fanstatik. Artista Academy alumni Akihiro Blanco and Chanel Morales are showcased in their first major show after the artista reality search.

Akihiro plays Hiro, a young man who grew up in the slums. Whenever danger beckons, he wields a magic bow and arrow that turn him to the masked hero, Robin Dude. Hiro's alter ego battles the evil forces led by the witch Mortianna (played by Bing Loyzaga). She wants to get a hold of Robin Dude's weapons to help her attain everlasting youth and beauty.

Playing the apple of Hiro's eye is Chanel in the role of Marian, a young student who is part of an immersion group in Hiro's community. Despite Hiro's proclamations of affection, Marian ironically only has eyes for his alter ego, Robin Dude.

Mortianna's patience is wearing thin with the hooded hero, especially since she is up against the clock in her mission. Robin Dude has already vanquished two of her evil minions – a werewolf and a vampire in the past two episodes of Istorifik. More evildoers are waiting to be unleashed, as Robin will try to escape the charms of a snake lady and ultimately battle Mortianna herself.

Find out in the next two Sundays if good triumphs over evil. Istorifik: Pidol's Kuwentong Fanstatik airs at 6:30pm on TV5.
